Mistakes – Part 2
Episode 2 of this month and we’re still talking about making mistakes. My idea for this episode: some friends give good advice and can share a cool perspective. Austin Blaylock is one of those friends. Austin recently graduated from San Jose State with a degree in screenwriting. He’s currently pursuing careers in both comedy and writing and has a few podcasts of his own.
In this episode, we talk about dealing with making mistakes in creative passions, hobbies, and careers, overcoming doubts that can come with pursuing a job in a creative field, and why you have to “just do the thing.” I also added a fantastic motivational speech clip that is unlike any you’ve heard before.
Name: Austin Blaylock
Current City: Pleasanton, CA
Birthday: March 20th, 1970
Who has inspired you in your life and why?
I’m inspired by comedians in the scene with me, who work hard and show me a quality of work in our scene that I strive for. Kaseem Bentley and Andrew Orolfo are two heavy hitters for me. After that Moshe Kasher and John Mulaney.
What are you listening to right now?
I’m listening to a lot of Bosnian Rainbows, they’re incredible.
What are you reading right now?
I’m always reading Cat’s Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut.
What is one thing you can’t live without?
My cat Gus, who I love more than anything, and chapstick, which saves my life on a near daily basis.
What makes you happiest?
Seeing people happy is what makes me happiest, hearing about people I care about talk about things they are passionate about just does it for me. That and making people laugh.
