Mistakes – Part 1
Sometimes I’m really afraid to make mistakes. Sometimes I feel that taking on big projects or (as corny as it sounds) pursuing my dreams/passions can seem very intimidating or scary, especially because I’m worried it won’t be perfect or I’ll mess up. I can be too hard on myself, I set expectations for my work way too high, and when I make a mistake sometimes it feels more like a failure than it does just a little mistake. I’ve found this to be very counterproductive because I get so wrapped up in my head that sometimes I won’t actually make anything. This is just silly because I can’t expect to make anything really great or anything that I’m super proud of unless I start to make things. I hope this is making sense… what I’m saying is I know that making mistakes is inevitable and I know that I always learn from making them, but sometimes I have a hard time remembering these things.
That’s why this month I wanted to talk to a few people about making mistakes. I wanted to ask why it can be so scary to make a mistake? How do they overcome that fear knowing they probably will make a mistake? (I promise that’s the last time I’m using the word mistake here).
Today I’m talking to Kim Doyal. She is the WordPress Chick, podcaster, coach, WordPress wizard, genesis junkie, and co-founder of the #FtheHustle movement… She’s also my mom. About 9 years ago she quit her stable 9-5 corporate retail job so she could create her own business. Becoming an entrepreneur as a single mom is no easy task, but she has never given up and that’s something I’ve always admired.
It’s these reasons I knew I wanted to talk to her for the first episode of the podcast. All biases aside, she gives some really great advice and I think you’re really going to enjoy this episode.
